Paid $200 for Dog Food!

My husband, bless his heart, made the HUGE mistake of purchasing a box of "beef" from Midwestern Premium Meats promo tent at the Westgate Mall parking lot, Spartanburg, SC. He heard the promotion on 93.3, who was on site when he arrived. He paid cash, so he wasn't given a receipt. We thawed 5 steaks out to prepare for the next dinner, (1) T-bone, (1) NY strip, (3) thin NY Strips. I noticed the color of the steaks was unnatural. The meat was seemingly transparent when it was on the grill. Once cooked, it had an odd rubbery texture, almost like dried gelatin. The flavor was horrendous... was this even beef? After the meal I went back and looked at the boxes. The meat is treated with salt, phosphates, sugar, soy and other additives. This is NOT premium meat - it's garbage.

Your first mistake was that you Thawed the meat Never Never Thaw this type of product. Its meant to be cooked from frozen.

I doubt they would have enjoyed that steak. Bottom line is you can’t make a silk purse out of a pigs ear.

You guys selling this low quality dog *** meat to people only give everyone in the business a bad name. If you aren’t a good enough sales person to get the good stuff and charge for it go do something else.

Midwestern Brand Meat - Steak Review from Charlotte, North Carolina

My husband also got sucked in. Spending over $200 on this horrible product. It smells like chemicals. It's chewy. They are ripping everyone off and probably giving us all a strange form of cancer. Would like my money back! Would gladly spend $200 on ONE GOOD steak than on this dog food.

My husband and I spent $209 on this meat. Yesterday we had some steaks and they were absolutely gross! They were very chewy and tasted like very old meat. Very disappointing for the amount of money we wasted on this food.

HORRIBLE MEAT!!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
The box of meat we bought from Midwestern Meat out of Jacksonville, FL was gross!! It smelt bad almost like moth balls. Meat was extremely chewy, smelt bad and tasted much like the smell. Don't be fooled by the "deal" it is really no deal at all!! I will be calling the number off the receipt that I was given for the money back guarantee which I believe is also a scam and if I am not given a full refund I will dispute the charge with my credit card company! NOTE TO EVERYONE DO NOT BUY MEAT FROM TRAVELING SALESMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ripped Off by Midwestern Brand Steaks

Well, I got suckered into buying a case of steaks from a guy going around in truck with Iowa Steaks written on the side of it. I am not ordinarily an ***, but the steaks he showed me looked pretty good. Should have known from the start, I live in Lincoln Nebraska, why would I want meat from Iowa. Did not realize until I was putting steaks in freezer that they were processed in Bolingbrook Illinois, and had up to 18% seasoning solution...really? in steaks. My first red flag should have been when I swapped the burgers for more filets, and got the price dropped almost in half. I read another post about feeding it to your dog...not me , I love my dogs. I firmly believe this so called meat is either horse, or a very old sick cow. Maybe both. Flies can have it in the dump.

Horrible "Steaks"

Purchased a box of "boneless ribeyes" a week ago and I just got around to grilling them today. Absolutely horrible. I took the time to read the box before grilling and realized the contents of this "steak". Last I heard, soy doesn't naturally occur in cows. Its a scam. This "meat" is a poor quality processed concoction that's reminiscent of grade school soy burgers. Don't waste your money. Thank God they only took me for $24. If I had paid $100+ like some people have, I'd be hunting these scam artists down. There are guys that actually sell quality steak from trucks and these weasels give them a bad name. Stay away from these guys.

I got SCREWED out of $173.00

Salesman showed up at my granmothers house in Valdosta Ga while I was wisiting there 02/02/13. I live in Jacksonville fl and the salesman (Michael) said they were also located in Jax. I bought ribeyes, sirloins, and hamburgers. The ribeyes were OK. I have tried the other steaks yet (afraid too). The hamburger are at least 60%-70% fat. They were so bad my husband and I could not eat them (pretty much inedible). I am going to call the 1-800 number to make a complaint. What a RIP OFF! A $173.00 is a lot of money to waist on garbage. I am so upset I got Screwed out of my hard earned money!

Are you suggesting that door to door meat just isnt what it used to be?

Chad Boa

Beth, you are right. But, the saleman was great at being dishonest and the meat looked good.

You live and learn.

Never again will I allow myself to be duked like that!

You expected good tasting meat from someone selling door to door? It probably wasn't even beef.

Just like the previous guy I am very upset that I paid 205 bucks for a bunch of worthless Donkey meat. Its tough and there is no flavor and after eating it I got sick...I felt sorry for the salesman so I bought it :( My Bad. The brochure referred to Omaha meats and didn't say anything about Midwestern meats...Heck I thought I was buying Omaha steaks at bargain prices but the joke was on me..The first hint was the brochure was copied crooked like the old memogragh papers of yesteryear but being gullible I bought it anyway..Fool me once shame on YOU fool me twice shame on me. I will never buy anything from a traveling salesman........Do Not buy Midwestern Meats the meat is horrible..the packaging is very deceptive :(

Midwestern Meat NOT "Natural"

A friend of ours told us about Midwestern, and served us steaks for dinner (which I liked), so I was excited when they showed up at my house. I HATE shopping, so I loved the idea of having my meat delivered, since I already have local organic produce delivered to cut my time at the store.

I asked the salesman several questions, and got really excited when he told me the meat was from grass fed beef and was "all natural". At that point, the sticker shock dissipated because I know how much grass-fed beef costs. I specifically asked if Midwestern Brand used any seasonings because I have celiac and cannot eat gluten, and my daughter is very allergic to milk. He assured me it was just plain meat with nothing added. Buyer beware! I was too trusting.

After he drove away and I was packing the meat into my freezer, excited because I was paying only about $6 to $7 a pound for delivered grass-fed, natural beef, I saw the labels. They add all kinds of "seasoning solutions" to the meat, AND three of the six boxes said specifically "Contains wheat, soy and dairy". I could not believe the ignorance of the salesman about his own Midwestern brand product!

Thankfully I noticed before I spent three days in the bathroom and my daughter spent two weeks recovering from itchy hives! To his credit, he did turn right around and trade out the allergen-laden cuts with the others. My friend, who has the same allergies, was shocked when I told her about the ingredients, and finally understood why her and her two little children had been having so many allergic reaction symptoms recently.

After researching about and tasting the meat, I know there is no way it came from grass-fed cows. The meat itself wasn't terrible, but I definitely would not say it was anything to write home about. The sales guy was really nice, and I am sorry I have to tell him I won't be reordering his product, but I was very disappointed with Midwestern's version of "all natural" beef. How is injecting sodium-laden flavoring chemicals and rubbing the meat with three of the top allergens natural??

I wished my wife would have looked into these guy's. She bought a a couple hundred bucks of it two weeks ago. I was pretty excited but the strip steaks dont cook like real steak - I think it is actually pork - it is the worst meat I have ever eaten. Doesn't even cook like real meat. Now I have a freezer full of it. Must have caught my wife on a good day - sad too, she thought she was doing a "good" thing for the family. I am going to make it my mission in life to spread the word. PLEASE help me spread the word, it was an expensive lesson

I'm way ahead of you. I have been posting comments and getting some great results.

I have cost them several sales because of my posts and several other peoples.

It's fun to hear when somebody reads your posts and how mad the sales person gets when they don't get the sale. If you want some good reading search for user Ihatemidwesternmeats.

When someone searches for Midwestern Meats your comments should come up in a google search.

I'm just sorry that you and I didn't search before we bought this ***-*** "meat".

I bought 4 ribeye steaks from a guy selling Midwestern meats that came by my job and soon after regretted it. Just looking at the meat frozen it seemed off. While cooking the meat it seemed off. While cutting the meat it seemed off. All I did was lick my finger after touching the cook meat and knew immediately it was DISGUSTING!!!!! I then took a small *** of it and spit it right out and threw it away in the trash. This meat is pretty much inedible!!!! NEVER BUY MIDWESTERN MEATS. MIDWESTERN MEATS IS GROSS!!!!!! NASTY!!!!!! MIDWESTERN MEATS IS AWFUL!! TRUST ME. TERRIBLE.

First of all, it's my fault for being such a sucker. However, it really did seem like a good deal when the salesman showed up in my yard and basically offered me steaks for a discounted rate of $2.00/ea. What was I thinking? You do not get quality meat for that price. The product is HORRIBLE. It has a SLIMY FILM goo coating it that doesn't seem to go away even after washing and cooking! It all tastes exactly the same. Trust me, your dog will love it, but when you feel like a burger or a steak, you're better off going to your nearest grocery store, paying a few bucks more, and getting a quality cut of meat.

Left empty boxes in place of 8 steaks in each box

After a high pressure sales pitch the salesman dropped the asking price of $300.00 to $150.00 for the same amount of product which I agreed to pay! BIG MISTAKE! He showed us the steaks in the first 2 boxes which looked o.k. He said he would put them in freezer for us 2nd MISTAKE! The next day my wife went to get a couple steaks to cook and found 3 boxes empty 2 boxes short, Total amount that I paid for 24 steaks short. I should have checked each box myself, 3rd MISTAKE. this guy needs to be in JAIL!!!!!

Mother and homemaker

Two very slick sales ladies came to my door to sell this meat. They were having a "special promotional sale". She even offered to pack my freezer for me if I didn't have room. The meat that she show me was not the meat I received. There is no labeling on the boxes to even say what is inside. The meat has been as tough as old shoe leather! I am very disappointed. We did not have money to throw away on this product. DO NOT BUT PRODUCT FROM DOOR TO DOOR SALES PEOPLE ESPECIALLY MIDWESTERN BRAND MEAT! Truly Disappointed!

The help had no gloves and reached into the meat case bare handed; then did not wipe hands and went to register to check me out and swiped my Visa all in from point a - to - b to c - to d. Wonder how the meat was handled from the back to the front of store display. None of the help had gloves on while trimming meats in open forum in middle of room. Could anyone have perhaps washed their hands and then gloved up? I was told if I was uncomfortable to request gloves - it should be a given without asking. Scarey - they also have chicken, pork, beef and a restaurant and bakery next door. Who's tending the store for quality control and health standards specified by Maricopa County Health department. Women in middle of room had no hair net, no gloves and thought it was funny that I raised concern. The Manager did void my transaction. Consumer's be aware - anyone sneezing in the area with strep or flu will go right to the meat as airborne when cutting and trimming in middle of room with no guards, no hairnets and no gloves. Also they keep sanitized wipe on the counter where they can, if they do feel like it, wiping their hands - hummm now there is sanitizer in the meat. Itch the nose, scratch the head, who knows where the hands have been, but went full force into the hamburger meat in the case unsanitized. Think about ecoli and how it spreads and other infectious airborne diseases could spread so quickly.
